I saw a penny on the ground
Thinking maybe luck I had found
I picked it up and went abound
As happy as a newborn clown
But with a sad frown
I thought it could have been a pound
And then a cold breeze came around
And many autumn leaves came down
Upon the greyness of the ground
Like an autumn gown
In many shades of golden brown
Something without bounds, quite profound
Beyond pennies, pounds or even crowns
For Mother Nature I had found
On my way to town
Oil painting on canvas

now if I can only zap myself into that picture with the road then I can say..."It's so nice to back home again in Virgina!
Beautiful trees, wonderfully painted.

Beautifully Done....
The art is just splendid.
You're a genius, A&P!!!
:)
Both paintings are stunning Nick!
I love trees and you have done each
justice. The first painting is so
mysterious and silvery, the limbs
like strings of stardust and I love
how you have outlined the path, makes one want to see where it leads.
The second painting reminds me of
a woman, beautiful Mother Nature,
in all her golden glory, the Sun
honoring her and creating a halo
around her awesome-ness.
Excellent potraits of Trees, and
especially, how one painting is
all silvery and the next painting
all gold and hallowed.
Great work, Nick!
Both paintings complement each other.
Great poem too..

Oh, what a beautiful poem and a very elegant painting. Nature's gifts are wondrous!
I am a first time visitor, a blog friend of Rhiannon's, and clicked on your comment to her post today. I hope you don't mind if I place your blog in my "favorites" as I have gone through a lot of yours and your artwork is wonderful! I esp love the one you chose for your avatar ... the woman dancing in the universe near Saturn. I wanted to tell you I appreciate what you are doing.

lovely art and lines. :)
Hi Nick
It may be unwise to take out lines from poetry...especially a rhyme..
Yet..I relish the two without rhyme!
"In many shades of golden brown
..Moter Nature I had found.."
Great works of art too...
I, 'A Certain Kind of Woman' miss you...You had been there sometime back when I wrote 'What I do these days'....Do come when time permits..

Nick Just to let you know if you like to used my dog for any of your art work or for that matter any of my pictures for your work, just go on over to my main blog (Not Just Photos) and take your pick as long as I get to see the final work that is.
Have A great Sunday!
I like the shifting moods here, various layers and contrasts you have betweeen luck/hope and sadness, greys and golds, et..
Love your painting of the lane with the trees. The poem and the last painting seem as if autumn has turned the copper color of the new-found penny! You asked if the poem about Eight Belles is true-yes it is. Eight Belles ran in the Kentucky Derby just this year. Big Brown is the name of the colt that beat her. I wrote that poem in reaction to the grief I felt at her tragic ending.
Very beautiful, you're a talented soul :)
love this

Mystical.. the light opens the spirit and perhaps a bit in the tradition of Blake.
