Shadows of a tear.

Pencil drawing

~
They have such pretty clothes
For in the sunlight it shows
But when the harsh wind blows
Their hunger only grows
~
And in the little children’s faces
Where only tears leave traces
Of lost souls and places
No life of love and graces
~
For God with all his power
Could not save one little flower
And man in all his glory
Could not understand the story
~
For I've seen the people cry
That so many had to die
And no one can tell me why
No one seems to even try
~
For it was no act of fate
For the lack of love is hate
For again we were too late
To change what we create
~
It was not meant to be
For in their eyes I could see
They were just like you and me
Just shadows of eternity
~
For we live and only stare
In a world that doesn't care
But do not shed a tear
There will be more I fear
~

SAD.

Nick, this is a powerful poem. Yes, we are each responsible for the suffering we don't help alleviate. That's a hard truth. The eyes of these children draw me into that truth. Very strong.

You've definitely captured a sadness futile feeling. I really like the drawing even though the words and drawing touches my heart in a sad way.

Powerful poem Nick - the ending says it all. Love your drawing - you've captured the suffering in their eyes with great clarity.

And so the God question. He can't or won't stop the tear? The flower must wilt for the world to go on but do we really want it to go?

I'm new to your blog and for someone who doesn't always understand poems, this one I found so touching. The fact that you have an amazing painting or sketch to go with it, makes it even more poignant.

So sad this poem is, and very touching as well. How so true thease things are in our world today as it was yesterday.

The drawing of these children are very good.

A very touching and moving poem, Nick....you really captured the emotion of your poem in your drawing, especially in their eyes. I feel their sense of hopelessness and fear.

Great poem, and true. WE need to take responsibility for others--everything is connected.
